The inner weight of a man.
“God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him”. Acts 10v34-35
So I decided to continue blogging about different issues as I deem fit because as I buttressed last week, it helps me to keep happy.
By now, you all understand that I tend to think a bit, thus using some of my thoughts as a forum for discussion, may not be such a bad idea.
I know you’d want to know why I started my post today with the above passage, it stems from a situation that occurred which seemed to resound in my mind. On this particular day, I was keeping up with an appointment and whilst observing the environment a thought suddenly popped into my head. To be quite frank, I was a little taken aback by the still small voice that seemed to follow the thought, so I listened and here’s what I heard.
To expatiate a bit, you see sometimes, it’s quite easy to walk into a particular setting and to rule out oneself, as not meeting up to certain standards set by society. At such times, this could arise from the predicament one may be facing, but when one decides to allow such situations define who you are then it becomes a problem.
Take for example, the fact that we tend to put some individuals on a pedestal simply because of the wealth they may have attained and; to classify them as role models irrespective of whether their behavior meets up with moral /principled standards.
So there I was in this setting, observing what was going on and here’s what I heard. “Onuoma who defines a man as being classy in my sight?” Of course this statement took me aback for a bit. So I pondered and asked further “what do you mean?” and the still small voice replied “who defines a man as being superior and sophisticated from all others? Why do you choose to use the standards society has set to rule yourself out from the number? Can one see deeply into a strangers life to know if for a fact they are more superior?” only then did the truth behind the statement suddenly dawn on me.
Many times one could go into a particular setting and choose to rule out an individual classifying them as being pretentious Or should I say ‘forming’ (taking the Nigerian society in this context).
Another example, would be walking into a mall and seeing a set of individuals dressed as what one may term ‘shabby’, but who being so happy with their environment tend to revel in the moment by taking pictures. In such cases these set of individuals view such situations as their only opportunity to shine. However, the tendency would be for some of us who are ‘sophisticated’ to stare in utter amazement forgetting that all fingers are not equal, and that such individuals have actually acknowledged their predicament.
To them such settings are the only ‘foreign settings’ they may ever know in this life. Thus, they revel in the moment. Despite this, we who are blessed with the opportunity to travel as we please, choose not just to walk on by gratefully, but deciding at the same time to stare in utter disbelief.
So here I was with the spirit of God asking me this same question “who defines a man as being superior and sophisticated from all others?” because whether we choose to accept it or not, we all breath in the same air, partake of the same sunlight and natural resources with the only difference being the weight of our finances / wealth.
Most times, you find out that such individuals posses ethical qualities which set them apart from the sophisticated few. So here I am asking “who defines a man as being superior and sophisticated from all others?”
Take care.
