The new dawn.
There are so many countless victories that occurred in my life to share, so don’t think that majority of my life has been beset by lows. However I needed to chronicle first the battles for ease of reading. Now let me just go back memory lane and start chronicling the victories.
In this case, I had just been redeployed to serve in Lagos state and was wondering which firm would be willing to take me into its employment for my youth service. Only for an old school friend of mine to turn up and tell me that there was an opportunity for a youth corper where she worked.
As I had previous work experience as a result of my previous job and vacation jobs, giving her my CV was not a problem. She submitted it and I was called by the firm for the interview and also for a live test. The job in question was for a front desk officer. After the live test, I was singled out by the firm as performing very well compared to the other candidates that had applied. My colleague explained much later that I was a fast learner and noted some little details of my live test that were taken into consideration. Settling down and working as the front desk officer of this firm for me came of course with its own natural challenges but because I had previous work experience both from the accounts firm I had worked in and all the vacation jobs I got whilst at the university, it was a bit easy to surmount them.
Now this is not the actual part where I’m headed in today’s post. Nonetheless there is a vital point to take home from the process I went through above which is that “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” Proverbs 18v16. The jobs that I had engaged in previously had groomed me, so when it was time for me to actually give something back in return it wasn’t much of an effort. I guess the onus lies on each and everyone of us never to overlook what we may view as a learning process in our various lives. Much later in life I got to understand that each learning process I passed through in life was linked to the next phase /victory that came my way. So never overlook the days of little beginnings no matter how small and irrelevant they seem.
So to continue from where I stopped, I worked as front desk officer for the duration of my youth service and when my service year was over, I was retained by the firm in its employment for performing well during my service year but like every job, it brought a lot of challenges with it as a result of trying to fit into a shoe without the necessary ground work or preparation for what was to come but there was not any challenge that came my way that was too much for the lord to solve. Anyhow I did enjoy my time working there and was drafted during my tenure to work in two different units unbeknownst to me that one day one of the units would be the stepping stone for my getting my second job. There were also various projects I worked on for this said firm that were actually viewed as a very huge success by the management especially to have been properly executed by a junior staff and these jobs were actually actually taken into account when I was asked to leave during the crash of the stock market. This stemmed from the fact that that many organizations were downsizing.
Initially when I was asked to leave it was a very painful process but little did I know that just as I was singled out it would turn out to be a blessing in disguise. How you ask? Well this organization had given its employees asset grants so when I was singled out and asked to leave them due to my track record, my grant with the firm was waived. I later got to find out that this was not done for the majority of other staff that were asked to leave after me. God as usual had gone a step ahead of me and had made all my hard work pay off.
So the key point of today’s post in addition to the one I just mentioned above is that in “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward” Colossians 3 v 23-24. One can never underestimate where a seemingly little show of dedication or diligence can take you in this life.
