Tell me something, what do you do when you are idle or bored and craving something new to do?Such times can be so discouraging and rather annoying especially if after searching deep, you simply cannot find an activity to spice up your day, lol. Last week Saturday and this week Friday (after hours) was one of those days for me. What did I do differently? let me see. Last Saturday, I found myself sleeping in until about noon when I decided that it might be a great idea to stock up my fridge with variety of meals. My family and…

Hello readers, hope you are having a splendid week.Did you know that as an SCD warrior you are expected to undergo an Ophthalmoscopy also called a Funduscopy regularly? What then is an Ophthalmoscopy? It is a routine physical examination that allows a health professional see inside the fundus of the eye and other structures using an ophthalmoscope. It is crucial in determining the health of the retina, optic disc, and vitreous humor. To undergo the process, the pupil will be used as the hole through which the eye’s interior will be viewed hence opening it wider by dilating it will…

I’d like to conclude this post today knowing I had ended it abruptly two weeks ago. As stated earlier, I was wrong in every way for lashing out at my friend, so when the rain of insults came my way, I knew I had to make amends but how was I to do so if my friend was unwilling to listen. As all my pleas seemed to be hitting a brick wall, I decided to take a step back and give him sometime hoping that his anger would ward off. This particular individual in question was a course mate from…

“Onuoma’s blog” turned a year old this week and I guess more than anything it has been a thrilling experience so far. The blog started amidst the Covid-19 pandemic when writing seemed to be a natural avenue to ease tension and get thoughts out in the open.Feedback from a percentage of readers say its been an impacting experience. This however, got me thinking of the aim and objectives of the blog. Yes, I know the most important part of it is providing succor to other Sickle Cell Warriors out there but I guess my greatest challenge has been making the…

It seemed pretty odd to me about three weeks ago. Sometimes silently walking away from arguments can be difficult especially when you know you may be right. In fact being the bigger person in issues, the one who ideally takes the first step to seek reconciliation isn’t just as easy.I had reached the point whereby I seemed to be having my fill of negative feedback especially in the form of arguments and all I wanted to do was to shut down in solitude. So what then was the problem you’ll ask. Well, I got quite a run down from someone…

Now to talk about warriors that are doing exceptional things and rising above their daily challenges. I came across a warrior named Lateesia. She is 39 years old and she and her hubby Matthew have a business called “Pressed 2 Imprezz” which was started to give Lateesia something to do since she cannot hold down a normal job. The business involves taking your ideas and creativity and bringing them to life in form of T-Shirts, Gift baskets, Glasses, Water Bottles, etc. They personalize your purchases by branding them with unique emblems. The business was started initially with the aim of…

I know it’s been over a week since I last published a post and I do know you all must have been curious to know what happened. It just that, sometimes putting oneself out on the pedestal isn’t always as easy at it looks. More-so, when you rarely get feedback, it makes you tend to wonder if your posts are having any impact on your readers. Nonetheless, I know that sometimes it could be difficult for you readers to also put the spotlight on yourselves and share a comment but it does go a long way to know your thoughts…

In today’s post I would like to recall some of the challenges I encountered working in an office. I recall vividly when I had gotten employed in my present job. I concealed the fact that I was a warrior to everyone hoping that my work would speak for itself. Anyhow during my first six months at the office, I started to fall ill every now and then. I just couldn’t figure what was triggering it because I knew deep down that although I had targets to meet there wasn’t any undue pressure from my superiors at the firm. Anyhow I…

Imagine my biggest surprise during my appointment with the hematologist earlier on in the week, my PCV had increased and had almost reached my stable count. I was thrilled. If you recall, my last consultation with the general physician had revealed that my PCV level was dropping and I required a transfusion but within the space of three days it had increased and was no more within the low threshold. I felt a burst of energy and added strength. After everything I had been through in almost three weeks, my faith had finally paid off. I couldn’t be more thankful…

Now is this stubbornness or relentlessness or “throwing caution to the wind”. This downright zeal for change to occur could have negative consequences. When you think of so many people that may have chosen to follow this route and eventually end up in the morgue you wonder what exactly all this fight is about. Yes, it takes the grace of God to go through an illness and also an equal amount of grace to be among the select few that have access to quality medical care and yet you choose to shun all that just to prove a point! This…
