Ever fading lines of success.
Whilst discussing with a friend during the week, I voiced my frustration on two distinct situations which tend to be ingrained in our society.
You know when an individual is moving up the ladder of success, they may have followers whom they tend to view with so much regard at the onset because they constantly patronize their business. Unknown to them that these contacts in turn share positive feedback with other individuals thereby causing their enterprise to grow. With time the proprietor would have a rich network of customers and could attain popularity in society.
However, you sometimes see in such cases that this business proprietor who seemed to be easily reachable and approachable suddenly becomes very aloof especially to these close contacts. To them, these individuals become what they sometimes describe as a thorn in their flesh even though they require nothing but simply miss the friendship they once shared with them, having realized that their popularity has pushed them further away from each other.
On most occasions, the entrepreneur could decide not to take their calls unknown to them that these contacts have their business at heart. They do so with such high mindedness thinking that such people have nothing to offer anymore. In the end they lose out on uncommon connections or favor because some of these individuals also happen to be their destiny helpers. Of course when things start to dwindle, they have no one with whom to relate. The same goes for certain workplace individuals.
In the other case, it could be that the proprietor monitors their business with such laxity unknown to them that this could have a ripple effect on the state of their trade. Take for example, a popular business known for viewing the satisfaction of its customers as priority suddenly decides to be unreachable at periods when transactions on their platform tend to soar and the likelihood of technical glitches are very high. Thereby, leaving customers in a frantic state and deciding never to undergo such an unpleasant experience in future. Tell me how such a business is likely to thrive and stand the test of time?
Sometimes these entrepreneurs believe that they’ve made a name for themselves and decide to leave their business in the hands of staff who overrun it and give their customers a bad impression. This also has a ripple effect in the long run, as their laxity and the staff they place at the head of management causes these customers to seek better satisfaction elsewhere.
It was quite odd, as I found myself experiencing the latter scenario this week. In my case it was rather frustrating to see a business that once viewed its customers this way, choose to take a break at peak season when customers would frequently visit their site. At the end, the technical glitch I experienced left me wondering if it was worth all the trouble as there was no one to contact for assistance.
Regarding the first scenario, all I can say is that many times, the people you meet when going up the ladder of success are placed there as pillars of direction and comfort when climbing. Hence, “ it pays to be nice to the people you meet on the way up for they are the same people you meet on the way down” – Walter Winchell.
