I’m out on the other side.

I have a smile on my face today.

Thank you for all your prayer and well wishes. It was a dark tunnel walk I’d live to remember but God had gone a step ahead of me. I guess now that it’s over, it’s more ideal to share and explain things in detail.

What transpired the day I sought other opinions? I was informed by the three specialists that there was an alternative for a hip replacement surgery to arrest Avascular Necrosis (AVN), at an early stage. So an MRI scan was requested to deduce how far gone the AVN was at each of my hips. This above feedback was one that had given me some form of hope but on obtaining my MRI scan, the results were completely different.

The AVN on either hips were at opposite stages. The right was very far gone and at a latter stage whilst the left hip was at an early stage. Also, it was discovered that I had a meniscus tear on my left knee, which required surgery.

The remedies were as follows;

To have a core decompression surgery on my left hip to stop the progression of the AVN, and an Arthroscopy surgery on the knee of the same leg, for the tear. After this was done and my left leg had fully healed, a hip replacement surgery was to be done on my right hip.

Now you understand why I’d stated that I sat quietly and gazed on that day. It was all so much to take in. The bill also seemed to have increased, as none of the surgeries was inexpensive. As I sat and gazed on, thoughts seemed to be drifting into my mind from every corner. A hip replacement surgery was a major surgery. Core decompression seemed a bit milder and as if this was not bad enough, there was a tear on my knee to deal with.

When I slowly came back to reality, all I could think of then, was to ask God to bring it all to an end. Have you ever been in situations where you wish your problems could disappear? This sadly was my present. I didn’t know what else to do that day, so I opened my laptop as usual and wrote the post ‘Send me a miracle‘.

God answered my prayers by sending certain persons to pick up the bill. Only then did it become obvious, that this was a door I had to go through. The left leg was to be done first. It was necessary because I would require a steady leg to use, when the hip replacement on my right hip was done.

Both surgeries on my left leg went smoothly, I refused to be put to sleep but was instead given an anesthetic to numb me from the waist down. The “after pain” was an intense crises but pain relievers were administered. Also, crutches were given to prevent weight bearing at my hip joint.

So to those of you warriors, that may be experiencing early stages of an AVN, please I urge you to learn from my experience. Don’t wait until the AVN has progressed significantly because only then would a hip replacement be required. A Core decompression surgery will inhibit the progression of an Avascular Necrosis and nip it in the bud before the hip bone collapses.

Below are some of the pictures taken after I was wheeled out from the theater. As the anesthetic gradually dissipated from my system, the pain became unbearable and I was given a medication which induced me to sleep.

My appreciation goes to those that made this a reality. May good health never cease from your lives. Also, to you all my network of friends, thank you for your support and prayers.

Stay blessed.
