Could he veer me off track?

So how did the wicked one try to veer me off the track and end my life using the hallucinations I experienced as a yardstick? By suicidal thoughts. The medication I was given, wasn’t dealing with the issue I was experiencing due to lack of awareness and medical advancement in our society. I actually needed to see a neurological doctor but at the time this issue occurred such doctors were quite few in the country and extremely expensive which I got to realize much later. As result of this imprecise medication, I was most times experiencing a relapse of the amnesia…

    Adjusting to my new life

I slowly adjusted to living with the new illness I was faced with. At the onset, it was rather difficult for me because of the sedatives which made me want to sleep for longer hours than usual. It was difficult getting up from bed and I seemed to had lost my coordination in the process because of the way my back ached when I stood, the constant twitching of my hands and sometimes of my lips. Also I had to adjust to going for monthly check ups at the specialist hospital which I found to be rather unpleasant because of…

    The Surprise Incidence

So I guess it’s time to share the incidence that left me puzzled for the rest of my youth. I had just finished secondary school and my results for Jamb had come out. I had failed to meet the cut off mark for my catchment area. This brings me back to the earlier post I had made about a naturally brilliant child being made to attend a school that lacked some basic facilities. Anyhow, the outcome had eventually showed up and there was no turning back the hands of time. My dad had insisted on proving a point to me…

    Preventing the frequency of crisis

As stated earlier, I continued to nurture the different talents I had and to put them into good use. I remember vividly writing my first book/short story, it made me feel very gifted OR was it when I drew a poster to inform teens at my church about an upcoming youth program. Sometimes I wished I had kept a copy, lol. Anyhow, these talents apart from school kept me very pre-occupied. The only times I remembered I had the SS genotype was when I was ill which on most occasions was rather frequent. I think this basically stemmed from the…

    Please don’t pity.

The pains I experienced continued to heighten as I became older. This left me puzzled and confused and wondering when exactly it would end. I went through different kinds of illnesses, one of which was Pneumonia. It was as if my chest walls were too heavy to carry, it would hurt so much at certain areas. I also noticed that I was falling ill a lot frequently during Christmas. As I got older I understood that it was the long journey to my hometown that was causing it, as my parents frequently took us to our state of origin to…

    “In you lies a blessing”

I would like to start by thanking you all for your views, comments and likes on my blog so far.Now that this is done, I’ll move over to my topic of the day, ‘Friendships’. Another issue I experienced was in this area.During my elementary school days, I had friends but I noticed that I lost connection with virtually all of them because I was ill so frequently and constantly away from school. I excelled in my academics don’t get me wrong because God indeed was faithful. On some occasions, whilst on admission my family would bring my books to me…

    How it all started.

At the age of three months, it was discovered that I had the SS genotype. My mum said that my feet swole up and I was crying uncontrollably. When they took me to the hospital and did a blood test, it was discovered that my genotype was SS. At the time I was born, Sickle cell anaemia was very prevalent as a result of ignorance not presently that there is some awareness about it and dating couples use this as a criteria not to proceed with marriage rites. From the age of three months, my long journey of pain started. Very…

    Living with Sickle Cell Anaemia

What is sickle cell anemia? From my perspective, it is a condition whereby the red blood cells of a person looses its oxygen content and causes the cells to squash to a sickle shape thereby triggering pain in the joints of that individual because of their inability to smoothly flow through the blood vessels.  My name is Onuoma and I possess the SS genotype. The aim of my blog is to share insights to individuals out there who are struggling with this condition and by so doing shine a ray of hope to them. I  have been through various kinds…
