Reconciliation when it hurts the most #2.

I’d like to conclude this post today knowing I had ended it abruptly two weeks ago.

As stated earlier, I was wrong in every way for lashing out at my friend, so when the rain of insults came my way, I knew I had to make amends but how was I to do so if my friend was unwilling to listen. As all my pleas seemed to be hitting a brick wall, I decided to take a step back and give him sometime hoping that his anger would ward off.

This particular individual in question was a course mate from my university who had suddenly caught up with me years after graduation. Living in separate continents had kind of permitted differences in interaction and we on several occasion had cause to laugh. Anyhow, I believed this gap to an extent triggered his ability to clearly grasp my frustration which I had thrown his way owing that our societies had their own peculiar characteristics. On different occasions, it just made sense not to argue hence my statement about “venting your frustrations without room for animosity”.

Initially I felt very insulted by his use of language likewise he also by mine so, I took a step back and decided to give him the much-needed space he had requested and to brood over my humiliation. This I did, by blocking him on my social media platform and staying away. You will never believe that after almost six weeks of the misunderstanding, when I decided it was time to revisit it, his anger towards me had indeed warded off. After a bit of explanation, he clearly understood my frustration which I vented his way but not directly at him.

Looking back now, I recall occasions when I also had made drastic decisions about other individuals sometimes family, colleagues and friends. I guess arguments can be viewed as everyday eventualities that sometimes require a bit of maturity to resolve or it might escalate beyond control. Sometimes walking away may be the best option possible.
