Onuoma's Blog

The focus is on you.

If I say that I haven’t been pondering of late why many of you warriors / caregivers don’t seem to want to share your story or perspective on an issue, it would be an understatement. Finally a clue hit me, maybe they are saying “well, I don’t have the writing skill, so even if I do try to share, it may not be up to standard”. I guess I need to share a little secret.

Majority of the shared stories on my blog were simply details sent in by warriors / caregivers. I tweaked it, turned it all around, gave it the heading and posted it on the blog. So all I require from you are just the relevant details. Simply forward it by mail to me, so that I can be in contact with you and when I’m done your post will be published.

A few weeks ago, I started to ask myself some very truthful questions. Yes, I know that this site is non-monetary but there are some warriors /individuals out there who would be pleased with the opportunity to showcase some of their products. Advertisement these days don’t come cheap. Would you care to reach out to me and let’s discuss. Some ideas seem to be at play in this little head of mine.

Before the launch of this blog, I told myself, I would not solicit for readers because I wanted to see how the site would do on its own. I shared the link to just a few of my contacts and used certain social media platforms to share excerpts. Of late I’ve noticed that the site is pulling its weight for which I am thankful. Just knowing that many of you are actually impacted by my articles is something I’m not only grateful for but to also have a little niche of friends out here that I can relate to, gives me immense joy.

A few who do know me, may wondering why I seem to keep to myself. I don’t. It’s just my way. You know when you see a little child with their parent and you say to them, “Oh! what a quiet little girl” and the parent responds, “just leave her, she’s simply getting familiar with this territory” and to your surprise she starts to to talk and play. That’s how certain people are. I’m quite a chatter box. It just takes a bit to drag me out of my comfort zone. So please don’t take offense.

One last person, I really want to appreciate is someone I view as a mentor, who inspired me into opening up this site. To think that I had this all inside of me and God used you as his instrument to steer me, gladdens my heart. I can only pray and hope that he richly blesses you as you have blessed mine.

Please see today’s post as my way of trying to appreciate you all. It’s not everything in this life that should be used for personal gain. Many times when you sow seeds of good deeds in the lives of others, they have a way of multiplying and returning back to your life in ways you cannot imagine.

I guess I’ll stop here today, wishing you all a splendid week ahead. take care.

Always love reading your blog! I have a theory on why people may not want to share their stories. It may be because of the stigma attached to sickle cell anemia in Nigeria.

Thanks Kemi, your theory maybe true. However it’s always possible to make posts as anonymous. The whole point at the end is to share experience on how one has coped. I guess I’ll reduce my frequency of asking.
