My journey to recovery came in a special sort of way.
Searching for a likely solution to the head sensations I was constantly experiencing had become exhausting. On some days, I would literally try to retrace my thought pattern. On others, I would be lamenting to someone close about my discomfort.
It was on one of such days that I was referred to see a psychotherapist. Psychotherapy is also called talk therapy and can help treat challenges and symptoms associated with mental health and emotional conditions by helping a person understand their repressed feelings. Such therapists are non judgmental and are trained to carefully listen and analyze the psychological needs of their patients.
In my case, I spoke with a Licensed professional counselor.
My sessions with the psychotherapist proved to be more fruitful in several ways than one. Although, when I initially started the sessions, I was a bit paranoid, wondering why speaking to this particular professional could actually help my situation. To the extent, that when a diagnosis was proffered, I was a bit reluctant to accept.
However, my moment of truth occurred when I had no option but to make a tough decision based on her deductions. Only then did I experience a positive change in my situation.
Now, please don’t think I’ve not said anything. The truth is that some shared stories are better discussed vaguely with less intricate details. Nonetheless, the purpose of disclosing my talk with the psychotherapist is to help some of you who may be in the quest for a journey to recovery.
